Lyon is about 2 hours away, Limoges, 3 hours and Geneva 4 hours. A new motorway is being built to Lyon that will considerably reduce the journey time.

UK flights
EasyJet fly direct from Lyon to both Edinburgh and London and, new for 2011, Flybe fly direct from Clermont Ferrand to Southampton, which is an excellent hub for access to other UK airports.

Worldwide
Air France fly daily from Clermont Ferrand to Paris (both Charles De Gaulle & Orly) and also to Amsterdam. From Paris/Amsterdam, flights are available to most of the world.

The nearest major train station is Clermont Ferrand or Vichy, both about 50 mins away, which provide daily direct access to Paris (Gare de Lyon). The quickest train to Paris from Clermont Ferrand takes just over 3 hours. Thiers also has a train station with trains to Clermont Ferrand in one direction and towards Lyon in the other. See SNCF.
