Amenities

The property is situated off the D906, between Thiers and Ambert, on the edge of the quiet hamlet of Sauviat (see also Sauviat info), but with amenities close-by in the market town of Courpière, at 6 kms. These include most essentials such as shops, supermarkets, post office, bank, pharmacies, doctors, dentists & hairdressers.

More and bigger shops and other services such as laboratory, hospital, opticians, tax office & social security office are available in the larger town of Thiers, at 16 Kms.

Sauviat itself is a small rural hamlet with mostly permanent residents and a small number of French & Dutch holiday homes, while the commune of Sauviat covers a larger area and includes the farms and small groups of houses in the surrounding countryside. The locals are friendly and the team at the mairie is very helpful. The new maire has instigated a number of improvements and this is ongoing. There are also regular social events organised.

In nearby Clermont Ferrand, at 55 kms, are modern city shops and a new convenient tram system, a huge university hospital, theatre, airport (Aulnat -CFE), train station, etc.

Vichy, St Etienne and Lyon are also convenient and provide a huge range of shopping. Vichy is by far the most elegant and well worth a visit.
Lyon also has an international airport (St Exupéry -LYS).

There are infant & junior schools in Courpière and senior schools (Collèges / Lycées) in Thiers. There is also a school bus. Unfortunately, we have no experience of schools, but if specific information is needed, research can be undertaken with the help of the mairie.
